Who we are
We are Motionhouse, a dynamic dance company based in Leamington Spa, and touring to festivals and theatres all over the UK and as far afield as the USA and China - so watch out world!! Set up in 1988, we're known for our energetic style which combines dance with acrobatics, circus and film. This June you may have caught our show The Voyage in Birmingham's city centre, kicking off the London 2012 Festival in the West Midlands.
Our project
We're raising funds to costume our new festival piece, Captive, which will be touring from summer 2013. We haven't created Captive yet, so we can't show you any footage, but you can see our most recent festival show by clicking Cascade opposite. Captive will be really physical and exciting; the set will be a cage which four dancers will perform in, on and around using our trademark combination of daredevil dancing and aerial tricks. Captive will explore what it's like to be confined.
The costumes need to be stretchy and comfortable (so we can move easily), yet protective and tough (have you seen some of our moves?!). Of course we also want to look good too! We can't just buy things off the peg so we commission a special costume designer. We also need a few costumes each as we get sweaty and dirty dancing outdoors and we can't easily do our laundry when we are on tour for days at a time.
Our target
Our target is to raise 1,500 AngelShares, all of which will be matched by Arts Council England. Plus our friends at AngelShares will claim Gift Aid for us if you tick the box as a taxpayer, making your donation worth 25% more at no extra cost to you. So every AngelShare we receive from you means £2.25 for us.
How you can help
A donation of £5 pays for socks for one dancer or a roll of two-inch black masking tape for transforming dancers into captive animals.
£10 pays for basic leggings or a T shirt (to be worn under costumes).
£25 pays for a kilo of orange procion fabric dye, and once we've got enough of that, 5 kilos of the soda ash needed to fix the dye to the fabric.
£50 pays for a basic pair of dance footwear.
£150 pays for a day's labour to make one bespoke costume (including pattern-cutting, sewing and working out how to magnetise a sleeve that needs to be ripped off in a fight!)
Thank you for being an Angel!
Love from the MoHo team xx

Captivating times as Research & Development begins!
Published on 4th October, 2012
Research and Development for Captive has got off to a strong start! A large cage made from aluminium tubing has been built by set designer Simon Dormon and the dancers have spent an intense week exploring the space, learning its limits and starting to create some truly breathtaking aerial and physical choreography as they explore the show’s theme: captivity.
“Over the first couple of days it’s a process of putting things to the dancers and then a case of giving them the time to give me some things to work with. In the first couple of days and weeks we will be exploring what we can actually physically DO within the space.” - Kevin Finnan, Artistic Director.

We have an Interactive Moodboard up over on Pinterest where you can explore various images of the dancers creating Captive, as well as inspiring images and poetry to give you a real taste of what the show is about. You can also follow us on Twitter or Facebook for even more updates about the show.

We've had a great response so far from our Angels, but we haven't hit our target just yet! There is still time to help us create the specialist costumes the dancers will need to perform the challenging choreography they are currently developing for Captive. Don't forget as well as donating, you can also spread the word by sharing this page with your friends and family to help get Captive costumed!
Thanks!
