Shelanu means belonging to us. We come together to make high quality craft objects inspired by our new home of Birmingham and influenced by our countries of origin. We want to be able to generate our own income through making jewellery to sell, running workshops and acting as mentors to other women just like us. We feel empowered by what we've achieved, the products we've made and the sense of pride that comes from them. We have gained in self-confidence and been able to share our skills through leading workshops within our communities. We've had an overwhelmingly positive response to exhibitions of our work and from the people we've met. We want to contribute to our own communities and benefit generations of migrant and refugee women.

Shelanu Collective
Published on 2nd April, 2012
Shelanu means belonging to us. We are a group of migrant and refugee women who have come together to make a range of high quality craft objects inspired by our new home of Birmingham and influenced by our countries of origin. We need to raise £2000 to buy a jeweller’s benches and a kiln. Please help us make our total and be part of our collective!
